Bar Termini

Soho

The fantastic Bar Termini is a coffee and aperitivo bar in Soho, London. Named after Rome's principle train station this is a slice of authentic Italian  charm and elegant style. This is a small place, with just room for 25 covers, you can and should book ahead. The drinks here are rumoured to be the best in town, and as a result have found their much fabled negronis in high demand. The negronis here are pre-made, aged and served in miniature custom made glasses, notably without ice so the flavour remains consistently perfect. There are three negronis on the list, Rosato, Superiore and Classico; put simply all three are well worth ordering.

There is a focus here on perfectionism, quality over quantity, the menu is small and perfectly formed. The drink list has just the three negronis, four aperitifs, three wines and one beer. All perfectly chosen and balanced to work as a whole. On the coffee side of the menu there are just four brews on offer and there is no latte art madness here, just quality coffee and epic £1 espressos.

All of this becomes obvious once you realise who the two men behind Bar Termini are, Marco Arrigo and Tony Conigliaro. Marco,  head of quality for Illy coffee and helped invent the espresso martini no less; and as if that wasn't enough, Tony is the expert behind the Zetter and 69 Colebrooke Row (The Bar With No Name)!

The espresso is so good here I deliberately make a detour past here at quiet times of the day just to drop in for one if I can. A brilliant 1950's Italian bar in the heart of Soho.

Recommendation:

They are selling bottles of their negronis! So you can serve the perfect negroni at home any time you wish.

They also host regular free masterclass' with Marco, so you can become a professional home barista. Chat to someone at the bar for a list of upcoming events.
